As we begin to take steps to restore our country during this election year, it appears that our local government candidates will find themselves on the front lines of an extremely important national security issue.
Earlier this month, the North State Journal reported that dozens of illegal immigrants arrived at Charlotte Douglas International Airport via an American Airlines flight from Phoenix. Witnesses said that the immigrants were carrying backpacks, paperwork, and brand-new smart phones. The stories can be read here and here.
In recent years we’ve heard disturbing reports about sanctuary cities such as New York City, Chicago, Boston, and San Francisco being overwhelmed by illegal immigrants flown to these locations. For example, New York City Mayor Eric Adams recently forced high school students into virtual classrooms to make room for over 2,000 illegal immigrant students at James Madison High School and other public schools.
And last spring in Chicago, three Venezuelan nationals who were living at an elementary school that was being used as a “migrant shelter” went on a crime spree that included attacking city residents in local parks.
Last year Gov. Roy Cooper vetoed a bill that required North Carolina sheriffs to enforce ICE detainers. This would’ve required sheriffs to hold illegal immigrants accused of serious crimes in jail for at least 48 hours. Gov. Cooper vetoed the bill twice.
Obviously, that sent a clear message to non-government organizations which finance the transportation of
illegal immigrants across the across the country. And Charlotte happens to be on a list of sanctuary cities in
North Carolina. It won’t be long before the city of Charlotte will be faced with the same problems we see in New York City, Boston, and Chicago. And it won’t be long before Charlotte begins to share its problems with neighboring cities.
