THE REPUBLICAN WEEK
Welcome to the RNC weekly newsletter - The Republican Week - bringing you the biggest moments from the week.
THE MAIN THING: GOP Makes Final Push in Virginia
Virginians are days away from electing a new governor and the polls are tighter than ever.
- The race for governor is close because Republicans are focused on the issues that matter most to Virginians: education, the economy, safe streets, and leading again.
- Momentum is certainly on the side of the GOP. That just might be enough to carry Youngkin and Republicans up and down the ballot to victory.
Parents Matter: The RNC has been targeting Democrat Terry McAuliffe for his out-of-touch comments about parents and his attempts to distance himself from Biden, including launching mobile billboard campaigns at his rallies with Biden and Obama.
-
Billboard messages included:
- “Parents matter even if Terry McAuliffe doesn’t think so.”
- “Terry McAuliffe has already failed Virginia families, don’t let him do it again.”
- “McAuliffe said 7 times that parents shouldn’t be involved in education.”
- The arrogant comments from McAuliffe that he “[doesn’t] think parents should be telling schools what they should teach” won’t stop haunting him.
- Parents are rightfully alarmed by the sexually explicit content found in Virginia school libraries. They’re incensed by the coverup of multiple rapes that occured in the state’s public schools. And they’re concerned by curricula that teach divisive Critical Race Theory to students.
Last ditch effort: For McAuliffe to ask Biden to campaign with him when Biden’s job approval rating in Virginia is at a dismal 43% shows how desperate McAuliffe and Democrats are.
Bottom line: Republicans are competing in a state many thought to be deep blue, but Biden’s plummeting approvals, Democrats' attacks on parents, and an economy leaving too many behind have given Republicans a chance to win.
- “Glenn Youngkin believes Virginia is worth fighting for, and he has the policy game plan to prove it,” wrote RNC Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel.
- “This is why Virginians of all backgrounds are turning out to support Youngkin and voting for Republicans up and down the ballot. There is too much at stake in the commonwealth and our country."
“Tell Biden we are coming”: Migrant Caravan Heads for U.S.-Mexico Border
A massive group of migrants, which branded itself as the “Mother of all Caravans,” is headed for our southern border. It’s already an estimated 4,000 strong and growing as it goes.
- Migrant from West Africa: “Right now is the best time [to come to the United States] because of Joe Biden.”
- Migrant from Nigeria: "The other administration was very tough, I would not have tried to come then."
The larger trend: Biden’s open border policies are encouraging thousands of illegal immigrants to make the dangerous trek to America. Our border is out of control, with more illegal crossings in the past three months than in all of FY2020.
By the numbers:
- 192,001 illegal migrants were apprehended attempting to cross the U.S.-Mexico border in September, making this the highest number for September in DHS history.
- 300%: That's how much apprehensions are up from the average number of September apprehensions under the Trump administration.
-
43,941: The number of illegal migrants the Biden administration released into the U.S. in just this past month.
- That’s on top of the more than 400,000 illegal migrants who were able to sneak into the U.S. illegally without being caught in the last 12 months.
Known and suspected terrorists are crossing into our country, posing a threat to our national security. Our Border Patrol agents are being overwhelmed and even attacked.
- The massive influx of migrants has fueled a humanitarian crisis at the border, with third-world conditions and reports of abuse and assault.
Where’s Biden? He still hasn’t visited the border, admitting “I guess I should go” when confronted about it at a CNN town hall last week.
Can it get worse? Democrats are proposing a plan to give $450,000 to illegal immigrants who attempted to enter the United States in 2018.
- Biden is either unable or unwilling to lead on the border issue.
Higher Prices, Lower Expectations: RNC Launches Ad Slamming Bidenflation
New this AM from CNBC: Inflation notches a fresh 30-year high as measured by the Fed's favorite gauge
The Latest from the GOP Video Team: Biden’s disastrous economic agenda is costing Americans more for everything from gas to groceries.
Biden’s economic failures include:
- Rising prices
- Unprecedented supply-chain issues
- Skyrocketing gas prices
- Higher taxes
- Lower real wages
"A failing jobs market, rising prices, a supply chain crisis, unconstitutional mandates, wasteful spending plans, and the largest tax increase in decades – these are the hallmarks of Joe Biden’s failing economic agenda,” said RNC Chairwoman McDaniel.
- “Americans can’t afford to pay for Biden’s rising costs and higher taxes.”
Tell us how you really feel: Biden and the Democrats continuously downplay the impacts of higer prices, labeling it a “high-class problem” and telling Americans to “lower your expectations”.
-
White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki mocked the supply-chain crisis that has disrupted global economies
- At a recent daily briefing, Psaki joked that it’s a “tragedy” some people may have to wait longer for products to arrive.
Building Back Broke: Despite Biden and Democrats knowing inflation is a problem that is here to stay, they continue to push for trillions in new spending.
- If Biden and Democrats get their way, “the federal government will have authorized nearly 1.5 times more in spending” in Biden’s first eight months “than it spent in all of 2019.”
- Economists forecast that if nothing changes, rising prices are “here to stay for years.”
Leadership Matters: Republican-led states continue to see more jobs and lower unemployment.
- Newly released data for September from the Labor Department confirms that Republican governors and legislatures are leading the way in getting Americans back to work.
The Results: The top 14 states for jobs recovered are all led by Republicans.
-
Republican-led states:
- 24 states have recovered at least 2/3 of their lost jobs.
- On average have recovered 80 percent of their lost jobs compared to just 67 percent for Democrat-run states.
- Idaho and Utah have MORE JOBS than when the pandemic hit.
Bottom Line: Biden has failed to deliver economic relief to hardworking Americans-- instead we have only been given empty promises and empty shelves. Republican-run states will continue to lead the economic recovery.
Republicans Grill Garland’s Attacks on Parents
Joe Biden, Merrick Garland, and Democrats doubled-down on their weaponization of the Department of Justice to target concerned school parents.
- This week, Merrick Garland testified on Capitol Hill about his DOJ relying on a now-retracted letter to justify the targeting of parents concerned about their childrens’ education.
What happened: The National School Boards Association sent a letter to Biden suggesting that parents at school board meetings may be deemed domestic terrorists.
- In a memo, Attorney General Merrick Garland directed the FBI and U.S. Attorneys to intervene and investigate the parents concerned about their children’s education.
Under Oath: Merrick Garland refused to explain why concerned parents are equivalent to 'domestic terrorists' in the eyes of the Biden Administration.
- He reaffirmed the letter from the National School Board Association – in which parents were compared to “domestic terrorism” – was the impetus for the memo.
- He admitted the incidents sighted in the NSBA’s letter did not "involve threats of violence."
- He conceded he and his staff did not even bother to verify ANY of the incidents the letter mentioned before starting the probe.
Democrats prioritize their political agenda over students, Republicans continue to fight for parents’ right to oversee their children’s education.
- Reminder: Virginia gubernatorial candidate Terry McAuliffe claimed that parents shouldn’t be “telling schools what they should teach.”
Bottom Line: Garland's testimony shows how out of touch Biden and Democrats are with Americans – they don’t want parents to be in charge of their kids’ education and they are openly admitting it.
