RNC STATEMENT ON THE CATASTROPHIC FEBRUARY BORDER NUMBERS
164,973 illegal immigrants were apprehended crossing the border in February, and more than two million illegal immigrants have been caught crossing the border since Biden took office.
WASHINGTON – Today, Republican National Committee (RNC) Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel released the following statement on the catastrophic February border numbers:
“Biden’s border crisis is out of control. Nearly 165,000 illegal immigrants were encountered at the southern border last month, the highest total for February in the history of the Department of Homeland Security. Joe Biden and Democrats’ reckless open border agenda created this crisis, and American families are paying the price with more violent crime, dangerous drugs, and millions of illegal immigrants crossing the southern border.”
Background:
- In February, 164,973 illegal immigrants were apprehended attempting to cross the U.S.-Mexico border, making this the highest total for February in DHS history.
- A 63 percent increase over last February, and a 280 percent increase from the average number of February apprehensions during the Trump administration.
- 12,011 unaccompanied children were apprehended.
- 54,585 illegal immigrants were apprehended from countries outside the Northern Triangle, showing that Biden’s crisis has gone global.
- 27,273 illegal immigrants were released into the U.S. in February alone.
- More than two million illegal immigrants have been caught attempting to cross the border since Biden took office.
- Additionally, more than 500,000 illegal immigrants have disappeared into the U.S. during Biden’s border crisis.
- Illicit drugs are flowing into the country at an alarming rate, with 634 pounds of deadly fentanyl and 12,500 pounds of methamphetamine seized at the southern border in February alone.
