RNC STATEMENT ON MORE THAN 2 MILLION ILLEGAL IMMIGRANT APPREHENSIONS UNDER BIDEN
WASHINGTON – Today, Republican National Committee (RNC) Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel released the following statement on over two million illegal immigrant apprehensions at the border under Joe Biden:
“Under Joe Biden, more than two million illegal immigrants have been encountered at the southern border – the most ever recorded in DHS history – because of his catastrophic open border policies. Biden’s border crisis has law enforcement overwhelmed, leaving them facing the highest level of illegal immigration in decades, drugs pouring into our communities, and skyrocketing crime. It is time for Joe Biden to go to the border for the first time in his political career to confront the mess he created.”
Background:
- In January, 153,941 illegal immigrants were apprehended attempting to cross the U.S.-Mexico border, making this the highest total for January in 22 years.
- It’s a 96 percent increase over last January, and a 194 percent increase from the average number of January apprehensions during the Trump administration.
- 8,777 unaccompanied children were apprehended.
- 62,681 illegal immigrants were apprehended from countries outside the Northern Triangle – 40 percent of total apprehensions – showing that Biden’s crisis has gone global.
- Over 2 million illegal immigrants have been encountered attempting to cross the border since Biden took office.
- Additionally, more than 500,000 illegal immigrants have disappeared into the U.S. during Biden’s border crisis.
- In just this past month, 62,573 illegal immigrants were released into the United States according to recent federal court filings.
- Illicit drugs are flowing into the country at an alarming rate, with 839 pounds of deadly fentanyl seized at the southern border in January alone.
