RNC STATEMENT ON EQUAL PAY DAY
WASHINGTON – Today, Republican National Committee (RNC) Communications Director Danielle Alvarez released the following statement on Equal Pay Day:
“After bearing the brunt from Democrat-imposed lockdowns that pushed women to drop out of the workforce in record numbers, women are now losing their paychecks to inflation created by Democrats’ failed agenda. Now more than ever, Republicans are fighting for policies that create jobs, keep our schools open, empower parents, and foster women’s success in the workforce."
Background:
- February’s Consumer Price Index surged by 7.9 percent compared to last year – exceeding economists’ expectations and reaching a new 40-year high.
- Real average hourly earnings fell 2.6 percent in February, with inflation eating up and wage gains.
- American families are being slammed with consumer prices rising at their fastest rate in nearly 40 years, with inflation costing the average family $3,500 in 2021.
- The Producer Price Index rose by 10 percent since last year, the highest increase on record.
- This is the eleventh consecutive month producer price increases have hit record highs.
- Core producer prices – which takes out food and energy – also increased at a near record 8.4 percent.
- Biden and Democrats’ school closures forced many mothers to quit their jobs so they could stay home to care for their children who are out of school.
- On top of rising prices and a supply chain crisis, Biden and Democrats’ pro-lockdown policies have disproportionally impacted women.
