RNC STATEMENT ON BIDEN'S YEAR OF CRISIS AT THE SOUTHERN BORDER
WASHINGTON – Today, Republican National Committee (RNC) Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel released the following statement on the news that over 178,000 illegal immigrants were apprehended at the southern border in December, the highest total for that month in the history of the Department of Homeland Security:
“Joe Biden and border czar Kamala Harris have failed – on their watch, cartels and smugglers are thriving, border officials are overwhelmed, our communities are less safe, but they just don’t care. Biden’s failed open border policies are the root cause of this historic humanitarian crisis.”
Key Numbers:
- Nearly 2 million illegal immigrants have been apprehended at the southern border since Joe Biden took office.
- In December, 178,840 illegal immigrants were apprehended attempting to cross the U.S.-Mexico border, making this the worst December at the border in DHS history.
- It’s a 142 percent increase over last December, and a 231 percent increase from the average number of December apprehensions during the Trump administration.
