RNC STATEMENT ON BIDEN'S REMARKS BEFORE THE LEAGUE OF CITIES
WASHINGTON – Today, Republican National Committee (RNC) Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel released the following statement on Biden's remarks before the National League of Cities:
"Thanks to Joe Biden and Democrat-led policies, crime is on the rise in cities and towns across the country. Democrats’ efforts to 'defund the police’ and soft-on-crime district attorneys have emboldened criminals and Americans families are less safe as a result. It’s past time for Biden to condemn the Democrats’ abject failures that have exacerbated the crimewave hitting our communities."
Background:
- In 2021, violent crime spiked across the country, with fourteen major Democrat-run cities setting all-time high homicide records.
- Other Democrat-run cities experienced historic crime not seen in decades.
- The number of brazen carjackings have also surged by as much as 81% in major cities.
- As crime surged in 2021, so did attacks on the men and women in blue tasked with protecting their communities.
- Ambush-style attacks on law enforcement increased 115 percent from 2020.
- 346 law enforcement officers were shot at and 63 killed in the line of duty – a significant uptick from 2020.
