Republicans Press Ahead: July Brings Policy Wins Against Gov. Josh Stein
In North Carolina, July 2025 shaped up as a defining month for Republicans in the General Assembly, as they challenged Democratic Governor Josh Stein’s policy vetoes and flexed their legislative muscle.
Despite Governor Josh Stein’s efforts to block key conservative initiatives, Republicans responded with unified determination and precise timing. Among the top measures targeted for veto overrides are:
-
House Bill 318, expanding detention powers related to undocumented immigration
-
Permitless concealed carry legislation, lowering the age threshold and eliminating mandatory training
-
Charter school independence reforms, shifting oversight from the State Board of Education
-
Duke Energy emissions rollback, easing climate targets and allowing rate adjustments
With a firm majority in the Senate and near-complete control in the House, Republican leaders gained ground. Though not every override was finalized in July, party officials signaled that “the math is on our side,” citing potential Democratic defections and absences that could tip votes in their favor.
The GOP’s posture throughout July makes clear: Republicans are setting the stage for a long-game legislative strategy that could shift the policy landscape in North Carolina well before the fall session.

The 80s Trivia Night Was Totally Tubular!
Friday night’s 80s Trivia Bash was an undeniable hit! The evening overflowed with nostalgia as teams faced off over retro questions, traded laughs, and formed new connections. With 40 guests in the room, many of them fresh faces, the energy was AWESOME from start to finish.
The best part? Many guests left asking, “When’s the next one?” Which tells you everything you need to know. If you weren’t there, you missed a blast from the past that had everyone smiling, reminiscing, and already gearing up for round two.
