CHAIRMAN'S CORNER

Ken Raymond, Chairman

This column is written in response to a story written by Wes Young, that appeared in the Winston-Salem Journal on July 13, 2022: 30-day gun, ammo raffle from Forsyth GOP criticized as tone deaf.

The senseless loss of life in America’s public schools are always tragic to say the least. Every parent fears the possibility of receiving a call from the police to inform them that their child was a victim during a mass school shooting.

Yet with every shooting since Columbine High School in 1999, Americans witness an amazing phenomenon at gun stores throughout the country. With every incident, including Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newton, Connecticut in 2012, Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas this year, and other mass shootings since 2000, gun sales in American gun stores skyrocket.

It happens every time.  For example, gun sales at Adventure Outdoors, in Smyrna, Georgia went up about 30 percent since the shooting in Texas in May. And according to an article in Newsweek published on December 8, 2017, over 3 million new gun sales occurred nationwide five years after the Sandy Hook shooting.

Why does this happen after every school shooting? Because those millions of gun buyers know something that the media and national politicians will never admit. And the purchasers of gun raffle tickets from the Forsyth County Republican Party know the same thing. They all know that many in Congress, particularly the Democrats, have no interest in solving the problem of school shootings. But they’ve always wanted to disarm law abiding Americans and will use tragic events to achieve their political goal of gutting the 2nd amendment of the Constitution.

For example, most Democrats support the concept of legally declaring certain places “gun free zones” and tougher gun control laws. As if criminals and the mentally unstable will honor these laws. Gun free zones are invitations to the lawless to prey upon anyone within “the zone” and possibly kill them with no risk to themselves.

If critics of the FCGOP gun raffle truly wanted an honest, good faith debate about gun violence they would openly acknowledge that in cities where democrats are in full control, such as Chicago, Baltimore, New York, Los Angeles, Oakland, Washington, DC, Detroit, Portland, and Minneapolis and many others, their toughest and most strict gun control laws have done nothing to stop gun violence.

And if tough gun control laws worked, these cities would be the safest in America, but in fact, in 2019, they were among the most dangerous according to the FBI’s Uniformed Crime Reporting.

But if our critics would take a close look at cities in Constitutional carry states, which recognize the 2nd amendment and the right of the people to bear arms, they would see that these cities are among the safest in America, according to an article published in Bearing Arms in December of 2020. Among these cities are Plano, Texas; Burlington, Vermont; Virginia Beach, Virginia; Gilbert, Arizona; and Lewiston, Maine.

But our critics will never admit this. They are not only “tone deaf” to people that demand their constitutional right to bear arms, but they are willfully blind to the fact that life in cities within Constitutional carry states are much less violent than life anywhere with strict gun control laws. In in their blindness, they create more unsafe cities with unconstitutional laws. And that’s why gun sales increase after a mass shooting.

They buyers of our gun raffle tickets know this even though the left and the mainstream media ignore it. So, our supporters ignore them.

In fact, if you would like to purchase a gun raffle ticket from the FCGOP, just click here.

GET TO KNOW YOUR GOP CANDIDATES

Each week we will be featuring a 2022 GOP Candidate!

This Week Is

TREY ALLEN

Running For

NC SUPREME COURT ASSOCIATE JUDGE - SEAT 5

Curtis "Trey" Allen was born in Robeson County to Curtis and Elaine Allen. He obtained a bachelor's degree from UNC Pembroke and a law degree from UNC Chapel Hill.

Trey began his legal career as a judge advocate in the United States Marine Corps. He spent most of his time in the USMC overseas, and his military service included a deployment to Iraq during Operation Iraqi Freedom.  As a judge advocate, Trey advised commanding generals and subordinate commanders on military justice and operational law matters, prosecuted violations of the Uniform Code of Military Justice, and helped fellow Marines resolve personal legal issues.

After being honorably discharged, Trey completed a clerkship with Justice (now Chief Justice) Paul Newby of the NC Supreme Court. He then practiced education law and became a partner at Tharrington Smith LLP in Raleigh. While in private practice, Trey successfully litigated cases involving constitutional and other claims before administrative agencies, federal and state trial courts, and appellate courts, including the NC Supreme Court. In 2013 he joined the faculty at UNC Chapel Hill, where his research, writing, and teaching focused on local government law. Trey was named Coates Distinguished Term Associate Professor of Public Law and Government for 2020-2022.

Following Paul Newby's installation as Chief Justice in January 2021, Trey was appointed General Counsel for the NC Administrative Office of the Courts. In that capacity, he provides legal guidance on a broad range of subjects to court officials across the state.

Trey is married to Teryn Melissa Smith Allen, another Robeson County native.  Together they have five (awesome) children, all of whom they homeschool. Church activities, sports, and Scouting take up much of the family's free time.

Judicial Philosophy: Trey’s judicial philosophy is straightforward. He believes that judges must follow the Constitution as originally understood and the laws as written. When judges issue rulings based on their political views, they exceed their authority and abuse the public’s trust. Judges should treat everyone with dignity and respect and provide equal justice under the law in all cases.

VOTE RED IN 2022! VOTE ALLEN!

LT. GOV. WINSOME SEARS SPEAKS TO FCGOP CANDIDATES

By Ken Raymond

Virginia Lt. Gov. Winsome Sears appeared as the keynote speaker during the Forsyth County Republican Party summer fundraiser last weekend at the Legacy Stables and Events Center.

Sears, a Marine veteran, is the first black woman to serve as Virginia’s lieutenant governor or any other statewide office in Virginia. Additionally, Sears is one of several leading republicans that swept democrats from the Virginia council of state, during the November 2021 elections. Gov. Glenn Youngkin and Attorney General Jason Miyares also won last year.

Sears, who was born in Jamaica, encouraged Forsyth County local candidates to campaign in minority neighborhoods and seek support from African American and Hispanic voters.

THE FCGOP CELEBRATES THE 4TH OF JULY IN THE KERNERSVILLE PARADE

By Ken Raymond

The FCGOP was enthusiastically greeted by the people of Kernersville during the 4th of July Parade in Kernersville earlier this month.

Hundreds of people lined both sides of East Mountain Street to enjoy the parade and celebrate America’s freedom. And they all cheered as local republicans walked by and encouraged them to continue to fight for our country and get active in the local GOP.

Mack Moore and Scott Arnold drove two trucks pulling trailers adorned with red, white, and blue balloons, flags, and banners. The decorations were made by Vertie Raymond, who also dressed as the Statue of Liberty. Dayanara Serna dressed as Betsy Ross and her brother as Abraham Lincoln.
