FCGOP Celebrates Black History Month!!!

During the month of February, the Forsyth County Republican Party is celebrating Black History Month by teaching historic truth about the connection between the black community and the Republican Party. This information is easily verified, but not taught in public schools for political reasons.

We’ll publish information about the role the GOP played, and continues to play, to establish freedom for black Americans.  And finally, we’ll also publish information about the courageous black republican congressmen, and state representatives, as they fought for equality, for newly freed slaves, against Democrat white supremacists and their allies in the Ku Klux Klan.

Distinguished Black Republicans

On July 7, 1868, North Carolina Republican State Senator Abraham Galloway took his seat in the state senate along with two other black senators and 17 black republican house members. Senator Galloway was 31 years old at the time.

The Wilmington Journal described him as "the pugilistic Indian Senator" and the Brooklyn Daily Eagle, in New York, described him as "the colored Napoleon."

Senator Galloway, who was born a slave, worked as a spy for the Union Army behind Confederate lines and he helped recruit former slaves from the Wilmington area.

Senator Galloway was also one of the founders of the North Carolina Republican Party.

On July 4, 1867, the Georgia Republican party was officially established. Congressman Jefferson Long was one of the party’s original founders.

Congressman Long, who was also born a slave in Knoxville, Georgia, was elected to Congress in 1870 and was the first black man to speak on the floor of the House of Representatives.

On June 17, 1849, Republican Congressman Thomas Ezekiel Miller was born.

Miller, who represented South Carolina's 7th District, was raised by former slaves in Ferree Beeville, South Carolina. He attended schools for black children that were illegal according to state law, at the time.

During a speech on the House floor Miller said, "I shall not be muffled here. I am in part the representative…of those whose rights are denied and those who are slandered by the press. I deem it my supreme duty to raise my voice, though feebly, in their defense."

Congressman Miller is also one of the founders of South Carolina State University. He is also one of the founders of the South Carolina Republican Party.

On July 24,1867, the South Carolina Republican Party was officially established.

One of its founders was Congressman Robert Brown Elliott. About 61 percent of the party's founders were black.

Congressman Elliot also helped shape South Carolina's state constitution when they re-joined the Union.

Congressman Elliott was also appointed adjutant general of the state’s militia, elected state attorney general, and served as chairman of the South Carolina Republican Party.

TARGETED OUTREACH COMMITTEE

HELP NEEDED - DELIVERIES FOR VALENTINE'S DAY

We would like to thank the law enforcement officers and firefighters at many stations around the county by bringing them snacks and cards in honor of Valentine's Day. We could use help with this project in a couple of different ways.

1. We need volunteers who are willing to bake or purchase snacks and deliver them to a police station or fire station near them. Snack ideas include Valentine's cookies or cupcakes, granola bars, individual packages of crackers, small water bottles, etc.

2. If you don't have time to make a delivery but would like to purchase snacks or contribute money to buy snacks, that would be great! Please contact Targeted Outreach Committee Chair Colleen Lopina at [email protected] by February 9 if you can help in any way.

NATIONAL POLL WORKER RECRUITMENT WEEK
  • A Poll Worker is an individual who works inside a polling location for the local elections office during early voting and/or on Election Day.
    • Individuals must be trained by the local elections office on their specific role.
  • There is a severe shortage of election and poll workers throughout the country.
  • Poll workers increase confidence in the election process by ensuring elections are free and fair of any election related irregularities, violations, and disruptions.
  • National Poll Worker Recruitment week is a great opportunity to engage citizens who want to ensure transparency in our elections.
  • For the RNC, every week is poll worker week – they have made significant investments in North Carolina and across the nation to ensure election integrity.
    • The NC Victory Office is hosting leadership training events focused on Grassroots Engagement, Voter Registration, Election Integrity, and others.
    • Volunteers can sign up here to engage with the RNC leadership training and help ensure Republicans WIN BACK congress this year.
  • From 1982 to 2019, the RNC was prohibited from taking part in poll-watching and other election monitoring activities due to a consent decree filed by the DNC.
    • This meant the RNC was unable to actively take part in election integrity, from boots on the ground to legal efforts.
  • The decree’s removal in 2019 allowed the RNC and NCGOP to begin building an election integrity operation, which now leads the way for the entire Republican ecosystem.
  • The RNC has hired fifteen election integrity directors in key states and twelve election integrity state counsels, including North Carolina.
    • Election integrity state directors are tasked with recruiting and training election integrity volunteers to poll-watch, collaborating with state parties and local stakeholders, and promoting best practices for fair, secure elections.
    • Election integrity state counsels are tasked with providing counsel to the state directors, submitting public information requests, recruiting and organizing volunteer attorneys, and assisting in initiating strategic litigation.
  • RNC's recent investments in Virginia’s November election proved the effectiveness of the program.
    • 11 paid election integrity staffers on the ground in Virginia.
    • Over 50 poll-watching trainings with over 3,200 attendees.
    • Over 7,150 poll-watching shifts scheduled.
    • A HUGE VICTORY at the ballot box.
  • Poll workers are important because they promote transparency for both parties.
    • With voter confidence at historic lows, this transparency and accountability is vital to restoring trust and making sure it's easy to vote, but harder to cheat.
  • Americans deserve to have faith that their elections are free, fair, and transparent, and Americans who volunteer to work at polls play a crucial part in ensuring that transparency.
  • As we work to recruit as many volunteers as possible, get your community voters plugged in to election integrity efforts. Sign up for leadership training! See details below on the training information!

NATIONAL WORK OF TRAINING

WELCOME TO THE NATIONAL WEEK OF TRAINING!

The RNC and NCGOP are sponsoring a National Week of Training, starting this Friday and going through next Thursday, to train people on election integrity and grassroots activism.  The trainings are the same, however, you can choose your meeting date..  There are 6 days of training for poll workers, poll observers, and poll greeters.  There's no need to travel as these meetings are via ZOOM.

Although there's still a lot to be decided by the NC Supreme Court; we need to be prepared!!

The training will explain how these roles have been used in the past and how they will be utilized going forward.  More importantly, we will learn how the entire Election Integrity system will work together from the bottom to the top.

We need the help and dedication of our volunteers to be effective on the ground during the election season.  The Forsyth County Republican Party hopes that you will take advantage of these training sessions.  The more people we recruit and train, the better we will be prepared and fewer issues we should have.

Please share this information with any friends who are concerned about the integrity of the upcoming election and ask them to participate in these online training sessions.
