RNC STATEMENT ON REPORTS BIDEN IS ENDING TITLE 42 BORDER EXPULSION ORDER
WASHINGTON – Today, Republican National Committee (RNC) Spokesperson Nicole Morales released the following statement on reports that Joe Biden is ending the use of Title 42 to secure the border:
“Joe Biden created a border crisis of historic proportions, and is now actively trying to make it worse. More than two million illegal immigrants have been encountered at the border on Biden’s watch, deadly drugs are pouring in, and crime is surging. But Biden doesn’t care about the devastation his agenda is causing the American people. Biden left the border unchecked and open, and if he chooses to eliminate this successful Trump-era policy, his border crisis will only get worse."
Background:
- The Department of Homeland Security is preparing for up to 18,000 illegal immigrants to enter the U.S. each day if Title 42 is repealed, overwhelming border officials.
- Up to 60,000 people are currently in northern Mexico waiting to cross into the U.S. once Title 42 is lifted.
- Border Patrol chief Raul Ortiz reports that the U.S. will surpass one million encounters for FY2022 “in the next couple of days.”
- National Border Patrol Council President Brendon Judd said: “We're fighting fronts that we just don't have the resources to do it, and if Title 42 goes away, then those floodgates just completely and totally bust open and will be overwhelmed, and we'll have less resources in the field. This is a scary situation, and when you look at the number of people that were apprehended that have criminal records, it becomes even scarier.”
- A Senior Border Patrol official: “Intel stats [show that] there are tens of thousands just waiting in Mexico for it to end. [Border Patrol] capacity will be reached in a few days and we will be forced to release subjects on the street. This will cause even more to flood across the border. We will see something we have never seen before. The border will be open for narcotics to cross since everyone will be processing."
